Description

The Jenukal Gudda (Honey-stone Mountain) is the second highest Peak in Karnataka. The place is known as “Hodachalli”.

The place is very calm and lush green surrounded by thick jungle and coffee estates and is truly a great trekking place.

From the top of Jenukal Gudda on a clear day, one can see the coast of Arabian Sea in Mangalore.

The view from the peak is very scenic. One side is completely covered by the dense Kabbinale forests. Ettina Bhuja, Amedikallu, Ombattu Gudda are also visible from the peak. The road from Ombattu Gudda to the Lakshmi Saraswati estate can be seen from the peak.

Note: In Monsoon Leeches will be common and problematic for trekking, winter or Summer is the best season to visit this place.

Sight Seeing

Sakleshpur offers many sightseeing options to tourists. Manjarabad fort which is located close to Sakleshpura on National Highway 48 is a prime attraction of the hill station. Constructed by Tippu Sultan the fort was used as a strategic defensive location. It is said that Tippu Sultan also constructed a tunnel from Manjarabad fort to another fort in Srirangapattana.

Kukke Subrahmanya Temple, a famous temple dedicated to Lord Subramanyeshwara is another most visited attraction. There are also shrines dedicated to Saraswati Devi and Lord Ganesha near the temple.

Bisle Ghat provides a majestic view of the surrounding mountain ranges. Located next to the Bisle Ghat, Bisle Reserve Forest is another attraction. The region surrounding Sakleshpur is also home to some famous trekking trails, most notably the Green Route.

  • Water Sports at Yagachi Backwaters : 70 minutes drive from Campsite Yagachi Water Sports is set in the backwaters of the Yagachi Dam located in Belur about 40 KM from Mystique Falls and offers an array of water sports like; baoting, jet ski, bumpy ride, banana boat, and lot more.
  • Bisile View Point and nature Reserve - 90 minutes drive from campsite
  • Shettyhalli / Gorur Dam - 120 minutes drive. The ruins of the Holy Rosary Church in Shettyhalli are partially submerged in water. This church was built by the French in 1860.
  • Hemavathi Back Waters - 20 minutes drive from Campsite
  • The back waters are amazingly beautiful and peaceful.
  • Belur / Halebid - 60 minutes drive from Campsite
  • Kukke Subramanya - 120 minute drive from Campsite

When you drive down from Bangalore on NH-48 towards Hassan (Mangalore) and beyond towards Sakleshpur, the experience of the smooth 6 lane highway is enough to seem like the perfect vacation already. Head via Nelmangala, past Kunigal, Chennarayapatna and Hassan on NH48. NH-48 is now renumbered as NH-75.

Sakleshpur is located on the National Highway 48 which connects Mangalore to Bangalore and hence easily accessible from both the cities. Mangalore is the nearest airport at a distance of 130 km while Bangalore is located at a distance of 225 km. Regular KSRTC bus services are available from both the cities and taking a cab is also an option.

Route from Sakleshpur

Take a right near Anemahal ( 2 KMS from Sakleshpur New Bus stand) towards Hanbal. Cross Hebbasale, Raxidi and reach Hanbal and take a road towards devaladakere, then head towards devarunda raod to reach Devarunda, you will see the board mentioned as "Bairaveshwara temple" (Before Devarunda), follow the board direction and you will reach Bettada Bairaveshwara temple of Devarunda which comes in mularahalli and Mekanagadde area. Continue from their following the Paradise board to reach Paradise Camp.

Shark Food Court a Family Garden Resturant on NH48 Kunigal Road, 20 Km before Kunigal town and 10km after Solur junction on off Bangalore - Mangalore Highway on left side as a attached Dosa Camp resturant in its outer premises which operates from morning 6;30 AM to 12 PM only. After 12PM Shark Food Resturant starts its operating till 11:30 PM. Dosa camp serves hot tatte idlis with masala vada, varieties of dosas and spicy palaav or Tomato Bath. Tatte idlis are very special among the other dishes, which is served with veg sagu, green and red coconut chutney. Dosas are also very popular.
