Wild Life Sanctuary

Bandipur National Park

Tread the path of the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore with a visit to Bandipur, about 80 KM south of Mysore on the Mysore-Ooty Road. The reserve is a playground for wildlife, with elephants taking the lead role. Be prepared for an unforgettable experience!

You might see a tiger prowling amidst the mix of deciduous, evergreen forest and scrub land vegetation. Set against the picturesque backdrop of the enchanting mist-covered Niligiri Mountains, Bandipur once the Mysore Maharaja’s private hunting ground, was brought under project Tiger in 1973.

This is one of the best game sanctuaries in India to observe and photograph wildlife in close proximity.

Season

Though Bandipur is around-the-year tourist destination, summers are the best time for wildlife sightings. March to May being the dry season, the animals come out of hiding and can be spotted by the watering holes. But for bird-watchers, the winter months are a better bet, for November to January, many migratory birds from the North, especially the Himalayas come down south to roost. The post-monsoon months are the best time for trekkers to visit.

Flora and Fauna

Deciduous, evergreen and scrub land vegetation.

Mammals
