Description

Bisile reserve forest is a rainforest area.

It is located in Hassan District's Sakleshpur (Sakaleshpura) Taluk. Bisile village adjoins this forest to the east. To the north it is contiguous with Kempuhole Reserve forest and beautiful Uchangi village. To the south it merges with Pushpagiri Wildlife Sanctuary of Kodagu district. To the west is the Kukke Subramanya forest range. Bisile Ghat is a natural link between Pushpagiri Sanctuary and Kudremukh National park. Though Bisile is given the status of reserve Forest, the stretch from Kulkunda to Bisile gate is undisturbed by human activities except for the following constructions by forest department.

  • A check post & related residential hutments at Budi Choudi.
  • Three km ahead of Budi Choudi, a reception room on the roadside.
  • Down on the riverside of Addahole few Dormitories with a rope bridge.
  • An inspection bungalow at Addahole bridge.
  • A round sun shade at a view point and watch tower at a place called "Beauty spot".
The thick forest is home of king cobras, tigers (rarely seen), Sambar deer, peacocks, numerous species of birds, Spotted deer, brown fox and Mahasheer fish, not to mention a number of flora and fauna which can only be found in this region of Western Ghats. One of the largest and rarest Indian mustelids Nilgiri marten (Martes gwatkinsii) were sighted recently in  Bisile forest.

Bisile Ghat is a stretch of beautiful adventurous spot between Subramanya and Sakleshpur. Bisile is a evergreen forest. Few Trekking trails requires permit from the forest department. It is listed as one of the 18 most diverse spots in the world in terms of flora and fauna and indulgence with this distinct region needs sensitivity and care.

This is Bisile ghat (part of Western Ghats), a perfect destination for adventure freaks.

It is not simply that Bisile ghat is called trekkers’ paradise. The breathtaking Bisile Ghat is a stretch of beautiful adventurous spot between Subramanya and Sakleshpur. The sub-tropical climate and heavy rains during the monsoon creates an environment where several unique plant and animal species flourish.

What makes Bisile ghat distinct is the fact that it is the forest range with largest extent of Shola forest in Karnataka. It is also special because it is the region which has largest number of wild animals living in the Western ghats range. It has remained unexploited because there are no human habitation in the forest.

Kumaraparvatha is the hill in the Bisile ghat, which attracts highest number of trekkers not only because it has serene, breathtaking surrounding but also because it is one of the toughest trekking routes to cover. Kumaraparvatha has three peaks, namely Bathadarashi, Sheshaparvath and Pushpagiri.
